Before the Partition of India Punjab was a large state with Lahore as its capital. The high court of Punjab was in Lahore then. But after the partition Lahore was given to Pakistan and so the need for a high court arose in Punjab and so the high court of Punjab was established in 1947. In 1966 a new state Haryana was cut out of the massive state of Punjab and the high court of Punjab was renamed as the high court of Punjab and Haryana. The High Court is situated in Chandigarh the capital of both Punjab and Haryana. Though it is the capital of both the states, it belong to none of them, it is a union territory of India. Chandigarh is Located on the north of India, 365 m above the sea-level, on the foot-hills of Shivalik range. Justice Jasbir Singh is the current Chief Justice (acting) of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Justice for all is everybodies birth right, and a court is the place of justice....The high court of Punjab and Haryana has been continuously working since its establishment for granting justice to all and wishes to employ those who can do the same . And maintain the prestige of the court.
